US Republican Party reaffirms support for traditional marriage

Against the background rhetoric of "inevitability" and "times are changing" the US Republican Party has recently reaffirmed its support for the traditional definition of marriage.

Defenders of the institution of marriage would be foolish to ignore the readings they are getting about the growing support for gay-marriage across the United States. While voters – when the actually go out to vote – are still very strong in their support for marriage as it has always been understood, the latest polls show that this support continues to lose ground to those in favour of allowing gay civil unions to be designated as marriages.

Biden puts the writing on the wall

US Vice-President Joe Biden may be comfortable with gay marriage but he should be very uncomfortable about the disingenuousness of his performance on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday night. When asked about where President Obama was now in the evolution of his view on the subject Mr. Biden pleaded ignorance when it must be clear to all but the most naive that he could only be a stalking horse for the President on this issue.
