But many countries do not have an Independence Day to celebrate. As the USA takes it’s biggest annual holiday to celebrate its birthday as a nation newly declared as independent from a tyrant ruler and newly self-determining, let’s look at who helped secure it. Like...Paul Revere.

After hard debate, the Continental Congress voted unanimously for independence from Great Britain on July 2, 1776. It took another day and a half to rework the text, and by the time it was adopted by the twelve colonies and signed by John Hancock, the Declaration of Independence was published on July 4, 1776. Thankfully, that Congress could work out their differences, for the common good. Today’s Congress can’t get anything done...

Saturday Night Live used to feature a skit in which comedian Jon Lovitz played “The Pathological Liar” who enjoyed weaving fantastical tales which he enjoyed delivering as truth. That comes to mind, thinking through the audacity of the latest New York Times’ wildly spun tales about the pope. Only this is no joke…

How much federal funding do they receive and how much do they spend, and therefore ‘need?’ It took 31 U.S. senators and congressional representatives asking for such a report to get the books opened for review. And what they found was a big discrepancy.
