The Spectre of the future

Sheila Liaugminas | 29 April 2009
Arlen Specter, the longtime Republican senator who switched parties Tuesday, admitted Wednesday the move was driven partly by a desire to keep his seat.

If they keep asking questions….ignore ‘em

Sheila Liaugminas | 29 April 2009
President Obama has controlled the White House press corps and most of mainstream media from the beginning. He does not like to be asked tough questions, and tends to get testy with reporters who ask them. Which isn’t often, since the media have been largely complicit in spreading Obama’s message according to talking points.

The golden tongue and the golden dome

Sheila Liaugminas | 28 April 2009
Though timeless wisdom says you can fool all of the people some of the time, even Barack Obama can’t evade the scrutiny of alternative media.

Glendon for ambassador

Sheila Liaugminas | 28 April 2009
With the Obama administration having trouble finding an appropriate ambassador to the Vatican, I’ve been saying for the past few weeks he should return Mary Ann Glendon to that post. Looks like that suggestion is more apt….and more unlikely….than ever.

That's only part of the setting of Mark Twain's novel A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court

Is this a joke?

Sheila Liaugminas | 25 April 2009
A news release came in this morning about a flare-up in British parliament over…among other things….the opinion of a Miss USA pageant finalist.

Napolitano’s actions “inexcusable”

Sheila Liaugminas | 24 April 2009
The Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, is responding to outrage over her ‘rightwing extremism’ threat assessment report and her latest remarks about the unsafe Canadian border by saying…..she’s being misunderstood.

Tyranny of the majority

Sheila Liaugminas | 22 April 2009
The anniversary of the death of Alexis de Tocqueville brought fresh reminders from this “great thinker of modern times”, who pretty much nailed the essence of America as a foreign observer, of his warnings that a nation can stumble its way into tyranny.

Citizens of the world, listen

Sheila Liaugminas | 21 April 2009
How elevated we have all been over the sudden appearance of one stunningly unpretentious and talented Susan Boyle. How in the world will such a fresh personality keep her innocence now?

Media suddenly not so interested in Palin’s remarks

Sheila Liaugminas | 20 April 2009
Because Sarah Palin’s talk was remarkably pro-life, and frankly courageous in her admission of how she faced the reality of choice.

Free speech for some

Sheila Liaugminas | 20 April 2009
But only if you’re considered ‘tolerant’.
