At the last Mass John Roll attended last Saturday, he would have heard the antiphon “…on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death, light has arisen.” Within a couple of hours he would be shot dead by a mad gunman. Arizona’s highly respected chief federal judge was laid to rest Friday, and those who knew him best say his life was filled with light.
