What to call the media

Odd….three times in one day, I’ve heard or read references to the need to stop using the term ‘mainstream media’.

One was on radio, when I said they don’t reflect the mainstream culture and should be called something like ‘elite media’, for lack of a more apt term.

Then I noticed that Powerline has taken to calling them the liberal media.

In recent years, the liberal news media–what used to be known as the “mainstream” media–have been in that category. Time after time, with mind-numbing regularity, they miss news that would be of interest to their readers.

Hours later, I heard Bernard Goldberg address this same, particular topic.

Since there is very little mainstream about the so-called mainstream media, it’s time for all of us to stop using such a misleading term – and come up with something new…

The fact is there are lots of stories that Americans care deeply about that simply hold no interest for so-called mainstream journalists.

So call the big, elite, liberal, partisan media something more fitting. Because they don’t represent mainstream America anymore. Nor do they try.

They’re all alternative media now…that we have so many.
