The news is not that the ‘Miss Me Yet?’ sign is out there on the highway, generating a crush of commentary in the media and carping in the blogosphere.

Okay, if you haven’t heard about it yet, this funny billboard sits on a highway in Minnesota and has suddenly grabbed attention. And everyone scrambled to find out who was behind it.

Minnesota Public Radio’s Bob Collins checked in with the mayor of Wyoming, Sheldon Anderson, who replied by email: “Wish I could take credit for it. Calls every day asking if it was me. If you find out let me know.'’

And now Collins has heard from Mary Teske, general manager of Schubert & Hoey Outdoor Advertising, who reports that “The Bush Miss Me Yet? billboard was paid for by a group of small business owners who feel like Washington is against them. They wish to remain anonymous. They thought it was a fun way of getting out their message.”

Apparently, it’s been a slow week in Lake Wobegone.

To me, the interesting feature to the story is that the billboard has been out there since December 2009, and nobody much noticed, or brought it up, until February.
