Social media for the good - it’s a decision

Katie Hinderer | 20 March 2012
Each year I give a number of social media presentations. While the audience often varies, the purpose of each talk is the same – Social Media is a powerful tool for the good if we use it.

Style at any age

Katie Hinderer | 13 March 2012
Respect your elders and let these ladies and gents teach you a thing or two about living life to the fullest. Advanced Style offers proof from the wise and silver-haired set that personal style advances with age.

Shh… I need silence

Katie Hinderer | 11 March 2012
The world needs more silence. Not silence in the face of wrong or injustice – there is too much of that. But silence in order to think – in order to think deeply!

The need to disconnect

Katie Hinderer | 08 March 2012
Social media is all well and good, but what is happening to us as we remain constantly connected?

Kirk Cameron has guts

Katie Hinderer | 07 March 2012
To me, no matter thoughts on the issue, Kirk Cameron was super brave to voice his opinion in such a clear and public way. He could have skirted the issue. He could have refused to answer, others have done much the same on Morgan’s show. But he didn’t back down or cower under what he must have known would create backlash.

February Archive

The bold trends

Katie Hinderer | 22 February 2012
The current clothing trends are all about bold, vibrant, stand-out colors. Neon and cobalt are the great trends.

The drama of lying for a good

Katie Hinderer | 20 February 2012
The trouble, as with many programs today, is that the show glorifies bad actions that lead to good results.

Superbowl and sexism

Katie Hinderer | 17 February 2012
There was a little uproar because one of the half-time performers flipped her middle finger at the camera. But, to me, this was nothing compared to the blatant sexism that was in many of the commercials aired that night. It’s high time for women to stop being inserted into commercials like one more object.

Komen and cowardice

Katie Hinderer | 15 February 2012
Last week there was a large uproar in the United States because of a decision the Susan G. Komen foundation made to cut funding to Planned Parenthood. The foundation, which hopes to find a cure to breast cancer, decided to stop providing grant money to the abortion provider because it was unable to track the way the monies were being spent.

Why is anti-religion considered art?

Katie Hinderer | 14 February 2012
Nicki Minaj's anti-religious Grammy performance was considered art, but art should raise the human spirits.

How to wear an oversized sweater

Katie Hinderer | 06 February 2012
I love the oversized sweater trend that made a splash this fall, but let’s be honest it is not the easiest trend to wear.

How to pack lightly

Katie Hinderer | 03 February 2012
Packing lightly and smartly takes time and practice. You need to put an effort into thinking through versatile outfits and packable clothing items.

He left a boy and returned a man

Katie Hinderer | 01 February 2012
But the most significant changes to me are the ones that aren’t noticeable with the human eye. He left for boot camp a boy and returned a man.

Student loans – the bane of my existence

Katie Hinderer | 30 January 2012
I think student loans are something so many of us take for granted. With the cost of education, we expect to graduate with debt. But is that really the best way to go about our studies?

How to host a clothing swap

Katie Hinderer | 27 January 2012
A few months ago I hosted my very first clothing swap. The premise is simple, every attendee brings gently used clothing that they are no longer using. You get the chance to get rid of things you can't fit into or are no longer interested in and can take home someone else's quality castaways.
