2013 Spring trends from New York fashion week

I didn't make it to New York's Fashion Week this year, but that doesn't mean I'm not tracking the Spring 2013 trends! I've been catching the recaps on some of my favorite blogs, scrolling through picture after picture posted on various websites. After all of that I feel almost as though I was sitting front row at some of the shows.

Can I gush for a moment about the Oscar de la Renta collection?? I'm pretty sure I loved every single piece! Here are three looks below, pic collection from FabSugar. You can see pics of the whole collection at FabSugar. Check it out!

Spring 2013 Trends according to the New York Fashion Week runways:

Stripes – We are seeing the striped trend make a resurgence this fall, with structured striped jackets, but just wait until the spring! The runways – everyone from Oscar de la Renta to J. Crew showcased outfits complete with complimenting and clashing stripes in various colors, sizes and directions. (pic Oscar de la Renta from The Simply Luxurious Life.)

Black and White – Not that this is ever ‘out’ as a trend. But black and white paired together, without another color to spice it up, was in nearly every show during New York Fashion Week. (pic of Rachel Zoe collection from Style.com)

It’s Electric – The bold corals and teals we saw this past spring will only get bolder. The runway this September was rife with electric pink, blue, yellow, orange and green. Jackets, suits, dresses, and onesies in bold florescent colors were everywhere. (pic of Diane von Furstenberg collection from The Best Fashion Blog)

Space-Age Metallics – Gold, silver, bronze… if it is metallic and shimmers it was present during the week. The metallic items were toned down with basics like white, nude, camel and black.

Pattern Play –Whether designers were mixing different patterns or showcasing items with blaring bold prints, we are due to see patterns in ethnic and tribal style in stores. (pic of Proenza Schouler collection from Celebrity Hot.)

Spring Leather – It’s making a huge play this Winter in ox blood and classic black. And it will stick around for the Spring months. Colored leather, structured jackets and pencil skirts all in leather walked the runway for Spring.

Lace – Sheer shirts and see-through patterns were everywhere this summer. Next year, we will continue to see these items but in new designs. Dresses, skirts, blouses with lace-like patterns and sheer overlays will be particularly popular. (pic of Carolina Herrera collection from Tom + Lorenzo.)
