Thanks to text messages, Facebook and Twitter the tween and teen population is developing an entirely new lingo. They combine word, shorten phrases and delete vowels. The letters may look like secret code to those outside the social media circle; making the generation gap glaringly obvious. For instance, my dad used to sign all his e-mails LOL. After months of this I asked why he was Laughing Out Loud every time he wrote me. He thought LOL meant Lots of Love. Oops. Fail.

AKF - Away from Keyboard
ASL - Age, Sex, Location
AYS? - Are You Serious?
B4 - Before
BCNUL8R - Be Seeing You Later
BF - Boy Friend
BFF - Best Friend Forever
BFN - Bye For Now
BRB - Be Right Back
BTW - By The Way
CUL8R - See You Later
CYA - See Ya
Diss - disrespect
Fail - Used to describe something that didn't go right. (Epic Fail, when it's really bad.)
FTW - For The Win (although be careful this also mean something derogatory when describing a bad situation.)
GTG - Got to Go
IC - I See
IDK - I Don't Know
IMO - In My Opinion (also IMHO for In My Humble Opinion.)
IRL - In Real Life
JFGI - Just Freaking Google It
JK - Just Kidding
Just Sayin' - when stating an opinion, tends to be mean
K - OK
LMFR - Let's Meet For Real
LOL - Laughing Out Loud
meh - showing indifference
MLIA - My Life is Average
MYOB - Mind Your Own Business
NOOB - New Person
NP - No Problem
NW - No Way
PAH - Parents Are Home
PAW - Parents Are Watching
Peeps - people
POS - Parents Are Looking Over My Shoulder
OIC - Oh, I See
OMG - Ohmigod
OTOH - On The Other Hand

Props - Proper Respect. (Mad Props, when it deserves extra respect.)
