Here’s some great news from the United States about college communities that are seriously into building a new family culture.
Over 300 students and alumni from nearly 50 colleges and universities across the nation will spend their Halloween weekend learning from leading scholars about the importance of strong marriages and sexual integrity in contributing to a flourishing society.
The annual conference, the largest in its eight-year history, will equip the attendees with the knowledge and arguments they need to be effective witnesses for the message of an authentic understanding of love and fidelity on their campuses. Sexuality, Integrity, and the University will be held on the campus of Princeton University on Oct. 30-31.
For those unlucky enough not to live anywhere near Princeton, N.J. (that is, nearly everyone reading this) the presentations will be live streamed from 7:30 PM EDT on Friday and from 9:00 AM EDT on Saturday.
“Every year, this conference grows in impact, and its importance and relevance has never been so clear,” says Caitlin La Ruffa, director of the Love and Fidelity Network, which is hosting the conference. “In light of this summer’s Supreme Court decision, it is inspiring to see the interest of so many to learn how they can continue to bear witness to the beauty of love and marriage.
“The students who will join us see first-hand the destructive impact of the sexual revolution on their campuses. I am so excited to welcome a record group to Princeton to form the next generation of leaders who can help transform our culture.”
The conference will address some of the historical trends that led to today’s cultural climate, like no-fault divorce, and explore some of the latest areas of debate, including third-party reproduction and transgenderism.
Attendees will hear keynote addresses from Helen Alvaré, a Professor of Law at George Mason University, who is a widely-respected lawyer and commentator who serves as a consultor for the Pontifical Council of the Laity (Vatican City), and W. Bradford Wilcox, director of the National Marriage Project at the University of Virginia and a visiting scholar at the American Enterprise Institute.
Other presenters include Dawn Hawkins, executive director of the National Center on Sexual Exploitation, and Jennifer Lahl, president of the Center for Bioethics and Culture Network, and Robert P. George, McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence at Princeton University.
“This conference is an opportunity for students from across the country to interact directly with some of the leading thinkers in the movement to enhance our nation’s understanding of sex and marriage,” La Ruffa said. “It is incredibly inspiring to know so many undergraduates are hungry to learn more and be witnesses back home in their own communities.”
The Love and Fidelity Network is the leading national program that promotes marriage and the integrity of sex at the collegiate level. It aims to equip college students with the resources, arguments, and support they need to uphold the institution of marriage, the special role of the family in society, and the integrity of human sexuality within their university communities and as leaders in the public square. It provides leadership coaching to these university men and women and offers funding for campus initiatives.
The Network was established in Princeton, NJ, in 2007 in response to the inadequate treatment of marriage, family, and sexuality at many colleges and universities. Today it actively supports over 60 student fellows and campus groups at over 30 schools. The Love and Fidelity Network is the principal program of the Collegiate Cultural Foundation.
