An imaginative child doesn't need toys to have fun
No one likes to discourage a child’s imagination, but when Jack uses everyone’s prized possessions to build a fort in the living room, trouble ensues. He is proud of his accomplishment. His sister, however, needs her chair back; Dad wants to read his books; his teenage sister needs the shower curtain; and Mom can’t make the beds without sheets and pillows.
Just when Jack thinks he might salvage his castle, a cold Grandma arrives looking for her quilt. Still, grandmothers have a way of understanding when no one else does. Quilts – like love - can be shared.
Preschoolers and primary grade students will be entertained by a feisty young boy who dreams of knights and sword fighting – and relate to being at odds with older siblings who have outgrown his fantasies. Brett Helquist’s illustrations are colorful and lively, capturing Jack’s adventuresome spirit.
