Wherever you are in the world it is likely that some group is lobbying for the legalisation of marijuana as a recreational drug. They will argue that alcohol and cigarettes are legal even though they are abused by some people. They will say the government will get a big tax rake-off from sales; that marijuana will be carefully regulated so that teenagers can’t access it; that legalisation keeps people out of prison; that it isn’t addictive and will even help people off really addictive drugs like opioids.

Well, watch this film about Colorado, where marijuana was made legal in April 2014, and make sure other people see it too – especially your representative in government. They will hear from deeply concerned professionals working at the coalface of society – in emergency clinics, the police, psychiatry – how the normalisation of the drug impacts communities; how the industry grows its market; how the tax windfall has to be spent, and much else that is disturbing. This is evidence that cannot be ignored – unless we want to ruin the next generation.
