Emerald: the color of 2013

There have been some serious mixed reviews about Pantone's Color of 2013 announcement. It seems many women think Emerald is a horrible color, unflattering, ugly, and not worth purchasing. I, on the other hand, think the right shade of Emerald can be stunning. Other colors for the year include, dusk blue, lemon zest, African violet, poppy red and nectarine. These colors make me anxious for Spring, even if the true Winter weather has yet to begin.Whether you love or hate the color of 2013 here are a few ways to work it into your wardrobe in the coming months:

  • Find a shade that suits your skin tone. If you are a summer/winter go for a more blue-based emerald, like this dress from Zara.. And if you are a fall/spring shoot for the yellow-based green tone, like this blouse from BCBG or this stunning maxi dress from Michael Kors. (I personally gravitate toward the blue-toned deeper emerald tones, like this jacket.)
  • Keep it away from your face. Worried the color will wash you out but want to be in on the trend? No problem. Work the emerald color in by going with a skirt or pair of pants in the color you like. Pair it with a color that does compliment your skin tone for the upper half of the outfit.
  • Work it in through accessories. There are already a lot of emerald-colored additions out there in stores. Add a bold necklace, an oversized bag or chunky ring in emerald to work the trend in without overwhelming. Even a multi-colored scarf that features emerald green would work.
  • Add glam through your makeup/beauty options. I'm not saying go with crazy bold green eyes. But a swipe of shimmering green eye shadow or using it as an accent color could be a great use of the trend. Also, what about going a little bold and opting for emerald green nail polish?
