Fact-checking the campaigns
Maybe this only seems like a new phenomenon in the presidential campaign. Maybe the media really did this last time around.
But I don’t recall this degree of specificity, to borrow a phrase from candidate Barack Obama at the Saddleback Civil Forum in 2008. Which, by the way, was virtually dropped from the news cycle afterward though it generated some compelling talking points.
Okay, so…good. The media have been fact-checking the GOP for months now, and they are ready to fact-check everything the candidates for the presidency say. We can only hope that extends to the candidate who currently holds the office.
Because they sure missed some points he made last time he ran for office.
