Dear discerning reader, I am writing this blogpost with a heavy heart. Shannon and I have decided to finish writing periodically for MercatorNet. After over ten years of writing this demography blog for this website, and nearly 1,200 posts between us, we have decided that this will be our last hurrah.

This is only insofar as weekly posts go, we still hope to write spasmodically from time to time about demography issues. But a recurring blogpost commitment is currently too much at our stage of life. Shannon is working part-time, I have taken on a new role at work, and the kids' admin seems to be increasing exponentially. So after ten years it is time to move on to new things.

We started this blog with little knowledge of demography beyond perhaps the hackneyed claims of overpopulation and The Population Bomb. However, as we read more and wrote more, we have come to see how we are on the cusp of what will be a truly remarkable epoch: sustained, widespread, practically global population loss. This will have enormous ramifications for our economies, our cities, our workplaces, our societies, our corporate spiritual health as well the geopolitical scene.

Although stories of demographic decline are starting to come to the surface of mainstream media coverage, especially in relation to the declining number of workers/taxpayers in a particular country, the story as a whole still remains largely uncovered and little-discussed.

Thus, there is still plenty to write about when it comes to demography. And from time to time we hope to contribute to this discussion.
