Great novels about romance

It’s wedding season in the Southern Hemisphere, but any season is a good one for reading what great novelists have portrayed of romance and marriage. Heaven knows we need reminders of what marriage is all about; besides, what is more satisfying than a tale of love conceived, tested, and finally affirmed?
I have opened with The Betrothed, a famous Italian novel that I first read (in translation, of course) a couple of years ago. Now it is your turn: using the form below, give us a brief run-down on the novel that you would recommend to a young person for its realism and optimism about romance – and, of course, its literary quality. You need not limit yourself to one – let’s hope there are many great reads on this subject. You can sumit more than one novel, but each one separately.
