This is hard-working America at its absolute best
This is hard-working, community-spirited America at its absolute best.
For 44 years Loraine Maurer, a mother of four, has been working behind the counter at McDonalds stores in Evansville, in the heartland state of Indiana. And she started working there when she was 50, after her husband was forced to retire. Now 94, Loraine is still working at McDonalds.
A local celebrity, she is always there for her customers with a cheery smile.
“If you don’t like your job, it’s a job, but I love it,” she told People magazine. “The people, the clientele, that’s why I stuck with it ... I know what goes on with them, I know some of their children. Some ask me to say a prayer and I do. I know their lives.”
What’s her favourite meal at McDonalds?
“The fish sandwich,” she says. “But now I work mornings and there isn’t anything I don’t like. This morning I had a blueberry muffin, two fried eggs and a cup of coffee.”
