Why Romney 'suspended' his campaign

It really sounded odd, considering that Gov. Mitt Romney effectively
stepped down and ended his run for the presidency. The media kept using
that word to describe it, and it’s so at odds with what he really did
that there had to be an ‘official’ reason for suspending instead of
ending a candidacy.

Turns out there is.

By suspending his campaign, Romney holds onto his delegates, at least until the party convention this summer.

And considering how strongly he went out, this is significant party power Romney effectively wields.

It took this to get it.
