World's Oldest Man Turns 116

Ten days ago on the 19th of April, the world’s oldest person celebrated his 116th birthday in Kyoto, Japan, becoming the oldest person ever (well at least that we know of!).  He was born all the way back in 1897.
Think of the changes he has seen in his lifetime.  Widespread electric lighting to kitchen appliances to cars, not to mention the internet and smartphones – the world has moved at lightening pace over the last century.  His 13 great-great grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren will no doubt experience the world as a very different place.
Will we rush to study his diet, exercise regime and skincare products?  No doubt, some will.  He says his secret is simply to ‘eat light and live long’.  Interestingly, he has made it a long-standing practice to eat only until he is 80% full.  I always remember a school science teacher telling me that we eat far too much in the West – perhaps it is true.  And no doubt he has honed his self-control by the practice as well.  He also does not smoke and drinks only small amounts of alcohol.  Formerly, he was a postman – a job which involves daily exercise I’m sure.
The gorgeous picture above is from the Mail Online.  This news certainly justifies my addictive sushi habit!
